Gilbert, a town, is located in Maricopa County, Arizona. Gilbert was the fastest-growing incorporated place of over 100,000 people in the United States from 1990 to 2000, as well as in 2002, 2003, and 2004 according to the Census estimates. As of the 2000 census, the town had a population of 109,697, but as of July, 2004, a Census estimate put the suburb's population at just over 156,000, a growth of 42% since the 2000 Census. In April 2005, the Town was estimated to have a total population of 165,685. Gilbert Arizona is still incorporated as a town rather than as a city, even though it is rapidly growing; it has the highest population of any area incorporated as a town in the U.S., and per the 2000 census was the only town with a population greater than 100,000 people.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 43.2 mi². 43.0 mi² of it is land and 0.2 mi² of it is water. The total area of Gilbert is 0.56% water.

According to the census of 2000, there are 109,697 people, 35,405 households, and 28,925 families residing in the town. The population density is 2,553.7/mi². There are 37,007 housing units at an average density of 861.5/mi².

Gilbert has 35,405 households out of which 50.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 69.5% are married couples living together, 8.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 18.3% are non-families. 12.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 1.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.10 and the average family size is 3.42.

In the town the population is spread out with 34.2% under the age of 18, 7.4% from 18 to 24, 37.8% from 25 to 44, 16.9% from 45 to 64, and 3.8% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 30 years. For every 100 females there are 98.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 96.1 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $68,032, and the median income for a family is $70,994. Males have a median income of $50,028 versus $32,381 for females. The per capita income for the town is $24,795. 3.2% of the population and 2.5% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 3.0% of those under the age of 18 and 5.9% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line. It is also known for its rather large Mormon population, associated with the Mormon-founded city of Mesa, Arizona that borders it to the north.

Politics of Gilbert Arizona
Gibert, Arizona is a predominantly Republican and politically conservative town. Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints have a significant influence. Most Gilbert Town Council members and all State Legislators representing the Gilbert area are Mormons.

Town Holiday of Gilbert Arizona
Gilbert Days is a celebration held annually in November, to commemorate when Gilbert Road was paved all the way through town. The events of Gilbert Days include a rodeo, a parade along Gilbert Road, and a 5k run.
